Sound Shaper 2.1.0.0
Windows Phone users have at their disposal a wide array of audio recording apps, but among them there is one which offers a lot more than basic capturing abilities and it is called Sound Shaper.
Clean looks, with a neat layout
This utility comes with a pretty simple, yet not at all dull appearance, even if it is focused on practicality. The inspired backgrounds are very much in-tune with the purpose of the app, while going through the various menus is seamless and free of delays or other glitches.
The graphics are decent and while the recording is active, the active decibel meter that represents the recording signal shows the data in real time.
The commands are easy to reach from the main menu hosted in the lower side of the screen. In the same area you will find the advertisement banners that can be removed once you pay for the full version of the application.
Quick capture and editing operations
One of the many advantages of Sound Shaper is the ease of use and this becomes evident from the first use, as all you have to do in order to start the audio capture is tap the dedicated button from the main menu.
The elapsed time and the adjustable pitch level are some nice features to have at hand and this utility offers both of the m inside the main screen. The playback controls are also to be found in there, so you can play the captured audio on the spot.
Besides skipping forward or rewinding you have the possibility to split recorded tracks with one tap on the corresponding button. Also, there is a neat option that enables you to edit the audio by selecting the start and end points with some simple sliders.
A great helper is the scheduled recording feature of this app that you can use to set a specific time when you want to start the audio capture and this works under the locked screen if this setting is activated.
Upload, share and manage recordings on the fly
Sound Shaper makes it possible for you to quickly share with anyone the audio recordings you make by transferring the data onto a cloud service and then having the link to that file added in a preformatted email message.
Uploading the tracks may take a while, depending on their size and after 5 days the data will be erased from the servers, but you will still have it inside the application.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7
The interface is decent and the app offers a well organized front-end, even if it is plagued by advertisements. |
Function10
The application is very well equipped for carrying out audio editing and sharing tasks besides the sound recording abilities. |
Security8
The utility needs, for some reason, to access some system areas that are not related to its functionality, like the phone dialer and owner identity. |
Battery4
The audio editing and uploading tasks are very demanding in terms of system resources, so the battery usage reaches high levels. |
Price9
The application offers a fair set of features free of cost, but it loses a bit because of the adverts, which require a payment to go away. |
Compatibility10
Most Windows Phone users can try this app onto their handsets, provided that version 7.5 or above of the operating system is installed. |
