Lux-o-Meter 1.7.0
Lux-o-Meter is the name of the utility that makes this possible and it puts to good use the light sensor some Windows Phone devices are equipped with.
Neat looking and very responsive GUI
The nicely designed interface of the application allows you to easily read the values and view the thresholds for various levels of luminosity, presented in a quite appealing manner.
The responsive meter reacts at every tiny change in light intensity, so you get instant feedback inside the main screen at all times. The only visible letdowns are the large ad banner displayed in the upper part of the screen and the occasional prompts to rate and review the application.
Get instant readings for light intensity
Since the app relies on the light sensor that is built-in the handset, the phone's screen must always be pointing at the area for which you wish to view the value of the illuminance. The data is expressed in lux and has several levels clearly delimited inside the gauge-like meter.
The Pro version of Lux-o-Meter, which has to be purchased to become unlocked, will bring with several measurement units for you to choose from, as well as with a switch for deactivating or enabling the automatic lock screen.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
The nicely done graphics of the interface score some good points for this app and the responsiveness of the display also gains appreciation in this respect. Unfortunately, the flashing ad banners and the prompts to rate and review the app take away some of the nice feel of this utility. |
Function8
Lux-o-Meter works very well and is quite accurate in its measurements, representing a good reference point for amateurs and professionals as well. It loses some points for not providing more measurement units free of cost and it could use a feature for recording the readings for further reference. |
Security7
This app is supposed to carry out a simple task and not meddle inside sensitive areas of the system, but, in spite of this, it still requires access to the phone dialer, owner and phone identities. |
Battery7
Since it relies on the light sensor to function properly, the app keeps the phone's screen lit at all times and consumes quite a bit of battery power. |
Price9
Given the rarity of this type of apps, Lux-o-Meter scores well for innovation and its overall value is influenced a lot by this factor, despite it needing a purchase to unlock more advanced features. |
Compatibility6
Unfortunately for the majority of Windows Phone users, this application is made to work only with version 8.1 of the operating system and it needs a device equipped with a light sensor to function properly. |
