Lock Screen Text 1.5.5.4

A simple tool for adding custom texts onto the lock screen of your Windows Phone
Keeping important notes at hand is very important for many users and in case they do not fancy pinning them to the Start screen, there is a way of having the texts even more easy to access.

There are some special apps, like Lock Screen Text that will make it possible to view a personal note without having to unlock the device, as the writings are shown right onto the lock screen.

Plain and easy to use interface

This utility has a very simple GUI, which his clearly designed for practical use rather than good looks, as it doesn't feature any graphical elements that could be seen as appealing to the eye. All the commands and functions are neatly tucked inside the main menu that is hosted at the bottom of the screen, so accessing them is effortless.

The ad banners displayed in the upper areas of the screen can be quite bothersome, while occasionally you will also receive some prompts to rate and review the app, but these can be dismissed and deactivated with a single tap.

Simple, 3-step operation for adding texts

Lock Screen Text works in a very direct manner, as it only needs you to set it as notification provider in the "Lock Screen" settings area of your phone and then add the text you want to keep at hand..

The text input area is rather small, but there is a reason for this, namely the fact that the application only supports up to 3 lines of text. Adding content using your voice is supported as well, so if you want to try this, just tap the microphone button in the main menu and start speaking.

In order to have the content you wrote or dictated by voice shown onto the lock screen, you only have to press the "Update" button and the input will appear in the lower side of the display.

Hits & Misses

hits

  • supports speech to text for adding input
  • updates the text onto the lock screen and on the live tile inside thge Start screen very quickly

misses

  • unattractive interface
  • supports only 3 lines of text
  • looks into several areas of the system for no good reason
  • lacks customizations for text color or font size
Bottom Line
Design / UI6

The unappealing front-end is bent only on functionality and thus loses a lot of points form the visual perspective, as it doesn't have much to offer.

Function8

The app works smoothly and the updates are instantaneous, while the voice memo feature is a great asset. Nonetheless, it loses a bit because of the 3-line limit and the lack of customization options when adding the texts.

Security6

There are too many sensitive areas this application needs to access for no good reason, like the phone dialer, owner and phone identities and even the multimedia libraries, so it should be used with care.

Battery8

The power consumption for this utility is quite acceptable, with a battery usage that remains at all times in the moderate zone.

Price8

Having the possibility to add texts that are accessible at a glance from the lock screen is mostly welcomed, especially when free of costs, but the ads and other shortcomings make the app lose a bit of value.

Compatibility8

Lock Screen Text is tailored for use only on the more recent handsets that are powered by Windows Phone 8 and above.
