Cool Light 1.8.0.0
Tailored to fit the needs of Windows Phone users, Cool Light is one of the utilities that was created to be of assistance for anyone looking to light up the place they are currently in, using only their mobile device.
Friendly interface, with a cool look
A friendly and easy to read interface greets you from the first use, but so will the in-app advertisements that come in the form of some flashing banners and follow you everywhere you go, as they seem to be glued to the bottom of the screen.
The responsiveness of the commands is very good and the transparent controls are pretty nice. The details presented inside the main screen are easy to read and every button conveniently placed for quick access.
Quick flashlight activation
Using Cool Light you can turn on the camera flash with one tap on the dedicated button and, while it is on, the battery indicator is also shown on the screen, so you can get a rough idea on how long you can keep the torch active before the energy drains completely.
The remaining time is expressed in hours and minutes and there is also the percentage of power left in the battery on display. The data is refreshed automatically, so you don't have to to anything to update the info.
A cool way of turning the light on or off is by shaking the phone and this setting comes enabled by default. Configuring it can be done via the "Options" area from where you can also disable the "auto open flashlight" mode.
System settings and info one tap away
This application comes with some very useful extra features that make for a more complete package. More precisely, there are several shortcuts inside the main screen and you can use them to reach some of the most commonly visited system areas.
Very neat is the fact that you can pin those tiles to the Start screen with a long press and have the links readily available at any moment. Alongside the system shortcuts, Cool Light puts at your disposal it's own calendar, very simple and easy to work with and there is also a short summary with a few system details available.
A button for stopping the music is included in the feature set, as is a most useful timer made for the same purpose. This latter function helps you set for how many minutes you want the audio to play and once you activate this, the app shows you the exact time when the playback is scheduled to stop.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7
The looks are decent, fairly clean and with some good graphics, but there are some irritating ads inside and no GUI customization options. |
Function9
The utility works well and the feature set includes a lot of cool functions that help it score a lot of points here. |
Security6
Even if this is only a flashlight tool, the app will access the phone dialer, owner identity and look in other areas that are not relevant for its functioning. |
Battery1
Keeping Cool Light running for longer periods of time will result in the complete battery drainage, as it needs a huge amount of power to function. |
Price9
This application is certainly a bargain since it offers its full functionality free of fees, but it still contains advertisements and this lessens its overall value a bit. |
Compatibility9
The utility works well on most Windows Phone handsets on the market, as it only needs that version 8 of the operating system is installed on the target device. |
