AdvanceTextEditor 1.0.0.0

Creating plain text files on Windows Phone can be done in a jiffy with this simple tool
When it comes to carrying out the simplest tasks users need to perform on a daily basis, it may be harder that most people think to find the right tool for the job.

Those who really don't feel like opening the Office suite every time they have to write down a couple of words or make a quick note could be interested quite a lot in a utility like AdvanceTextEditor.

Dull looks and easy to use layout

Just as its name suggests, this app is made to deal with text only and the plain interface you will meet once you start it for the first time confirms this. No visual appeal whatsoever is there to be found inside it, unless you put a high price on black, white and a bit of gray.

The few commands it comes with are neatly placed in the menu hidden in the lower part of the screen, so you can access them with a single tap.

An editor without editing features

Similar in some ways with the Notepad app many of us are familiar with from the desktop version of Windows, AdvanceTextEditor beats it by far in terms of simplicity. It all comes down to tap and type, as there are no formatting options or advanced editing features.

Creating new documents, saving the one currently loaded and viewing the ones you previously wrote are pretty much all the functions you get with this tool. In case you want to remove some of the files AdvanceTextEditor keeps in store, you will have to do this one document at a time, as it doesn't support multiple selection.

Hits & Misses

hits

  • very easy to use
  • uses a very small amount of power to run

misses

  • lacks editing features
  • overly simplified interface, with no customizations
  • saved documents cannot be shared or accessed otherwise than within the application
Bottom Line
Design / UI1

The overly simplified layout doesn't offer anything to make the utility appeal to its potential users in any way. Only those who are seeking for a virtual piece of paper and a pencil could appreciate the dullness of this interface.

Function1

The editing functions one would expect just by looking at the app's name are missing altogether. Only what is provided by the virtual keyboard on the system can be used to make modifications to the written text.

Security10

There's nothing to worry about when installing and using this tool, as it doesn't touch anything stored on the phone and keeps the documents it creates all to itself.

Battery10

The only power consumption that is recorded while using this app comes from keeping the screen lit, so it passes with flying colors in this respect.

Price2

Even if it is completely free of cost, the energy spent when using it, as little as it may be, may not compensate for the lack of functions, as there are many note taking utilities just as free and with far more tools under the belt.

Compatibility9

If AdvanceTextEditor would work under Windows Phone 7 also, instead of supporting 7.5 and higher versions, it would get maximum points because it doesn't need anything special to get it going.
