Yahoo Mail is one of the many apps in the iTunes Store that takes cues from Apple’s design direction using flat iconography, a little bit of translucency, a fluent swipe-based navigation system, and changing menu-styles based on the location you are in the app to preserve screen space (particularly helpful in the iPhone version).
iPad users will enjoy a far more relaxed experience. You can summon the weather tool at any time without leaving your current activity (Mail, Yahoo Today, or News). This level of optimization is highly useful when dealing with such a content-rich application.
They can also minimize the compose box by simply tapping or swiping down on the header bar. Resuming writing the email can be done by simply tapping on the compose window again.
The email portion of the app offers everything you’d expect: a sidebar with your Inbox, Sent Items, Outbox, Drafts, Spam and all that other stuff we’ve all become accustomed to, file attachment, contacts integration, the works. Sadly there’s no preview function for emails with a lot of content in them, something that would be very handy on the small iPhone display.
Three-in-one
Yahoo Mail is not just your average email app. Far from it, actually. You also get Yahoo Today, the service that offers information on the weather, stock market, hot news, game scores, photos, videos etc, as well as a dedicated News section, which lets you swipe through topics and read them like in a regular news app. You can favorite stories and even save them for offline reading. And you can tell Yahoo to fetch you similar stories in the future with a single tap.
