Inbox by Gmail 1.2.2

Inbox by Gmail comes as a more sophisticated solution to solving your crowded inbox
It hasn’t been extremely long since Google has decided to launch Inbox by Gmail, a new way to organize your email inbox. Even though Gmail already comes with a few categories of its own, helping divide the incoming emails under various labels, it looks like Google wanted to do more.
The response to Inbox by Gmail has been mixed. While some see this as a great tool that helps them greatly, there are many that just don’t see the point of it all. Whether this is an app that you need, you’ll have to decide for yourself, in the end.

The app lets you add your own reminders to the top of the inbox, highlights the messages you really need to read without having to dig through the dozens of emails you get each day, and bundles the rest away.

Everything is labeled

Inbox by Gmail groups up the messages by their date and their label and highlights the most important ones from the past few days. You can dismiss these groups at any time by tapping the checkmark button, which signals that you’re done with the emails in that area. This won’t delete them, but it will take them of your front page.

Handling individual messages can also be done. Swiping one of the emails to the left will snooze it until a date you set yourself. Swiping it to the right will mark the message as “done.” From the side menu, you can gain faster access to a series of areas, such as drafts, the sent folder, reminders, trash and spam, as well as emails bundled by their content – travel, purchases, finance, social, updates, forums and promos.

The big red plus button enables you to send off a message to one of the contacts you’ve written to recently, set up a reminder, compose a random message or invite others to Inbox.

Tips and tricks

Talking of which, Inbox by Gmail continues to be an invite-only type of service. This means that you have to know someone who already has access to the service, have them send you an invitation to your Gmail address and go from there. Alternatively, you could add an account to your friend’s phone with your credentials, gain access to the service and then remove your traces from his or her phone. Then, you can just log into your own phone and enjoy the service.

Whether this is a service you’ll stick with, it’s your decision. You should, however, at least give it a try and see whether it’s useful for your workflow or not.
