@Timer 2.0.1

A fully-customizable, one-tap timer with a lot of in-app purchases
Timer apps are usually either too complex or too simple. In most of the cases, you have to struggle to accurately turn dials or punch in numbers and then ultimately set the events just right hoping that the phone will ring when it has to. Apple’s own timer utility is a pain to use, for instance.

Original interface

Contrast’s @Timer is different. Granted, it’s a standalone app that you have to download and install in addition to Apple’s own offerings, but its good looks and easy to use UI are worth the effort.

@Timer looks good and very original. It doesn’t try to copy Apple’s design direction, like most developers do, yet it still retains a modern look and feel. Even the app’s icon is pretty elegant.

Uses speed dials

Because time is of the essence when you’re faced with a deadline, the people at Contrast decided they’d make a one-tap timer with 9 pre-set intervals that you can choose from, or edit yourself, and then use them in the future in case of similar scenarios, deadlines.

The basic functionality of @Timer allows you to have a plurality of pre-set timers which you can tap to start and tap to stop at any given time. It’s like you’re using speed dials, and it’s very time-efficient.

You just tap a timer to start, tap to stop, and tap and hold to edit the timer to the second. You can even assign it a name, a glyph and a custom color. Most of the cool sounds, icons and themes are paid commodities, so don’t expect to get in the free version everything that you see in the screenshots on iTunes. However, the main perk is free of charge and starting with version 2.0 there are no pesky ads

Hits & Misses

hits

  • hassle-free, one-tap timer
  • lets you edit each speed dial
  • core functionality is free of charge

misses

  • has lousy sounds in the free version
  • it’s easy to summon Notification Center instead of the options panel
  • has too many in-app purchases
Bottom Line
Design / UI9

@Timer looks awesome and is truly original.

Function8

@Timer allows you to have a plurality of pre-set timers which you can tap to start and tap to stop at any given time. It’s like you’re using speed dials.

Security10

No problems whatsoever in this department. Unless you name one of your timers something illegal, like “sell the weed” or “kill your neighbor.” It displays the alert on your Home screen even after you close the app, but that’s how you want it to work.

Battery9

Normal consumption levels.

Price6

Although the main function is free to use indefinitely, @Timer has one too many in-app purchases and most of the sounds included with the free version are lousy.

Compatibility8

Requires iOS 6 and doesn’t have an iPad version.
