Oldify 2 - Face Your Old Age 1.9.3
Designed (to freak you out) purely for entertainment purposes, Oldify is one of those apps that you can’t put down until you’ve tested it on everyone in the office / at school / in your family.
Takes you through the motions
As its name implies, it shows you how you’ll look in your 60s, 80s, and even later on in life, with a cool animation that’s sure to freak out some users.
Oldify looks pretty decent for an app meant to cater to all audiences. It’s chock full of ads and nag screens, so you wouldn’t expect any good quality design here, but it looks pretty neat nonetheless.
It launches to a selfie mode which accesses your front-facing camera, and asks for your permission to send push notifications, which is always a drag.
Once you center your face and take a selfie, an example is displayed. It shows you how to instruct Oldify to recognize your eyes and mouth for an accurate rendition of your old face. These tools are also pretty well designed, and the UI as a whole is very understandable.
It's so realistic, it's scary
Once you’ve gone through the motions, Oldify shows you a picture of your old self from the future. The level of realism is scary. Even more so when the person on screen starts to blink, yawn, sigh, etc. Granted the animations are nothing more than stretched pixels, but the desired effect is achieved.
Not much else can be done with the free version, but there’s a great deal of new options that you can buy via in-app purchase. Nothing wrong with that, except the app nags you once every 5 minutes to try Apptly’s other apps and combine them with Oldify to achieve even more interesting results.
Photos can of course be shared through various social networks, and you can even record a video of yourself talking old. It’s really awesome and a bit freaky at the same time. It really gets you to consider quitting smoking, for example.
