Known as the “golden hour,” or sometimes as the “magic hour,” there’s a special time twice a day, after sunrise or before sunset, when the daylight changes color, becomes redder and softer, and when pictures and videos just look better.

Those who are passionate about photography or filmmaking have known about it for a long time and have taken advantage of it as often as possible, capturing beautiful pictures and great videos as often as possible

Meet Magic Hour

Magic Hour is an app that was designed specifically for this purpose – helping everyone know when this special time is set to begin and how long it’s actually going to last.

The app comes with a simple interface. For starters, Magic Hour needs access to your location so it can get things perfectly timed, not just when it comes to the actual time of the day, but also to the sun’s position. As the app explains, it uses the location and the date to calculate when the sun is between 6 degrees above the horizon and 6 degrees below it, which is when the magic happens.

The main screen of the app displays a countdown timer, letting you know how much time you have to wait until the next magic hour starts. Below, there’s info about the exact time when it’s going to start, when the sunset takes place and when the magic hour ends, as well as how long it all lasted.

Even lower, you’ll find info about the upcoming magic hour, which is the next sunrise for us. Additional info lets you know how many hours of sunlight you get in this period and how many hours of darkness.

Get alerts

If you want, the app can be set to alert you when magic hour begins, as well as with a number of minutes before it all starts. This can be done for both sunrise and sunset, which is perfect since you those who aren’t really morning people might not want to get awakened well before the sun is shining just so they can take pictures.

All in all, this is a really nice app, even though its usability is quite limited since not everyone is interested in this type of information
