Lensical 1.2
Lensical isn’t dedicated to one particular type of editing. You can use to to shoot photos within the app, import photos from other apps and services, apply filters, stickers, etc. It even recognizes faces and uses Apptly’s oldify algorithm.
Smart, elegant design
Lensical not only looks very good, but it’s also well designed to save screen space while also offering all the options you need, when you need them. One such example is the portrait / square toggle on the left. Another is the retractable edits menu.
The import button on the right, when tapped, displays a list of options that includes your Camera Roll, Lensical, Camu, and Seene. The developers of three apps (in addition to the iPhone’s camera roll) are likely partners with Apptly.
Unfortunately navigation isn’t as swift as you’d first imagine it to be, while the filters reel doesn’t show previews of what the image will look like under a different filter. Points off for that.
Filters, stickers, oldify
This app doesn’t just apply filters and effects, like most camera apps do today. Far from it. For example, Lensical recognizes faces automatically and lets you apply things like facial hair to them. You don’t need to place these on the face yourself. Lensical does this automatically as well. However, it’s not always accurate unfortunately, and you can’t move these add-ons with your finger. Which makes them pretty useless in some cases.
Lensical includes Apptly’s awesome oldify algorithm which lets you see how you and your friends will look at 70-80 years of age.
Sharing
Sharing options include the usual social networks, as well as email and message. You can drop a photo onto another device via AirDrop, as well as Open In..., Copy, and Animate In... However, some of these functions don’t seem to work unless you have dedicated apps already installed on your iDevice.
The app also enables you to get your pictures printed on a variety of items, including canvases, phone cases, shower curtains and so on, which will certainly make for a fun experience.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
Looks amazing but could use more work in the filters department, as well as in navigation. |
Function8
Does a lot of things for a free camera app, but the end results will not differ much from one another. The filters aren’t exactly out of this world. And the app crashes sometimes. |
Security9
Has online sharing features and ties to other apps on the phone. Nothing in particular looks dangerous, though. |
Battery8
Normal drainage levels. |
Price7
Unfortunately Lensical is quite full of in-app purchases for things that aren’t really worth buying. At least not for their current prices, anyway. |
Compatibility8
Requires iOS 7, no iPad version. |
A great, all-in-one photo editing solution for your iDevice.
