Je suis Charlie 1.1

Je suis Charlie helps those who want show support for the victims of the Charlie Hebdo terror attack
Following the terrible attacks on the Charlie Hebdo satirical weekly newspaper in Paris at the beginning of 2015, a phrase was born to support the freedom of speech. “Je Suis Charlie” is something that’s been said millions of times already by those trying to show solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attack.

While there’s quite a bit of controversy revolving around the issue and many have denied “being Charlie” due to the nature of the comics posted by the left-wing weekly, the phrase has caught on and there are plenty of people out there who have chosen to identify with Charlie Hebdo in an effort to protect the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press.

Je suis Charlie

Je Suis Charlie is also an iOS app that was launched recently with the same thought in mind – uniting those who feel that freedom is worth protecting.
In an unprecedented move, the app got through the Apple approval system within an hour. While the entire process usually takes about ten days, this one got on the fast track after the developer sent an email to Tim Cook to ask if there was a way to speed up the process, considering that speed if of the essence when it comes to apps based on momentary hype.

Within the hour, the app was live in the App Store, hoping to unite those with similar beliefs.

The app itself is quite simple. The interface is extremely simple to use and it just involves a map. You’ll have to allow the tool to gain access to your location so it can properly pinpoint you on the map. As the map zooms in on your location, you’ll notice there are plenty of badges in the area, representing a hand clenched around a pencil.

Pins everywhere

Each of the pins represents another user of the app who chose to show his or her allegiance to the “Je Suis Charlie” movement. You can do so too by tapping the very same pin at the bottom of the screen and joining the others.

Just like with any other app, you can view the standard version or move to the satellite view to see more of the terrain. Another feature the app comes with is the one allowing users to share info about the app with the world, be it via text message, email, Twitter or Facebook.
