FaceClock with Calendar 2.2.5

Here’s a clock app that’s actually worth considering. FaceClock with Calendar by iReka Soft has a pretty cool design and it’s got a few extras that work well and don’t cost a dime. Unless, of course, you want the pesky ads removed.

Clean UI

FaceClock with Calendar is all UI. There are no menubars or tabs that cover the home screen, just a few buttons that appear for a few seconds when you tap the screen and go away after a while if you don’t interact with them.

The design is flat and almost static-like. The clock hands / needles move fluently, and we wish we could say the same about the calendar, but unfortunately that one only snaps into position when you browse through the month views.

The background is black by default. In our testing, we’ve learned that this is the best way to use the app, as other backgrounds tend to obstruct the clock and calendar view. You can choose images from your camera roll, or select one of several colors (red, green, blue, brow, cyan, and others).

Alarm clock function

The alarm clock is really simple to access, set and use. When the alarm goes off you have the option to Wake Up or 5 Min Snooze. Various alarm sounds are built inside the app. Most of them are annoying, but you can choose a song from your music library and wake up to that.

Lots of options

You can use the app in both landscape and portrait mode, and there’s also an iPad version that doesn’t really take much advantage of the bigger display. The settings menu offers a lot of knobs to flip on and off, for things like: show second hand, show number, needle type, use alarm, colorful number, show month name, day from Sunday, and more.
