If you’re the type who uses math to convert Celsius degrees into Fahrenheit degrees, and vice versa, first of all congratulations that you can actually do that. Second of all, if you ever grow tired of doing it, there’s an app that makes it a whole lot easier to convert Celsius into Fahrenheit using only gestures.

Easily one of the simplest apps of its kind, Dgrees has one sole purpose: to tell you how Celsius degrees in Fahrenheit’s scale, and vice versa.

Slide up and down

Instead of punching in numbers and hitting “send” or “enter” like in some 1990s movie, all you do here is slide your finger up or down on each of the dudes’ scales and your conversion is instantly displayed. You can go up to 450 degrees Celsius, which the app says is 482 Fahrenheit, or to the minimum temperature known as “absolute zero,” -273 degrees Celsius or - 459 degrees fahrenheit, again, according to the app.

While the absolute zero I get - I think it’s a law of physics or something - the 450 maximum, I don’t. For instance, our shiny star, the Sun, burns at millions of degrees Celsius. I for one would be interested to know how that converts to Fahrenheit.

Color-based convertor

The converter also changes color in accordance with the temperature levels. Cold temperatures are of course represented by blu-ish hues, while hotness is represented by warm colors, such as yellow, orange and ultimately red.

Built-in quiz machine

Oleg Janeiko decided to spice up his app while at the same time try to monetize it by throwing in a purchasable quiz game that tests your conversion skills. The Guesstimate function, as it’s called, sells for two bucks. Which is not expensive, but it’s not cheap either, considering the limited functionality.
