Converter Pro Free 5.1.4

If there’s one thing we don’t like about “freemium” apps, it’s their advertising. Many developers think it’s a good idea to say that the in-app purchase is for removing the ads when, in fact, it’s required to also unlock features.

False marketing

Converter Pro Free has a very confusing name, and its marketing scheme is just as tricky. Despite saying that the in-app purchase will only remove ads, in reality it also unlocks features. And there are plenty of ads too, some taking up the whole screen. The full app sells for $1.99 / €1.79.

Good looks

The app looks fairly good and even has a built-in calculator with shiny buttons which you can toggle to matte if you pay the in-app purchase money. There’s an option to change the button color inside the Settings menu. That one also requires an in-app purchase. What gives, Panoramic Software?

It looks a lot like Apple’s Calculator, but the screen above is divided appropriately to accommodate two elements of conversion (units or currencies). The tabs below offer various conversion-related services as well. Overall, it’s pretty good looking and very easy to use.

Lots of built-in converters

The unit converter supports almost two dozen categories, including acceleration, angles, area, cooking, data storage, density, power, pressure, speed, torque, volume etc. There are also 150 currency rates from around the globe updated daily. You can just hit the update button if you’re not sure the app has refreshed and boom! you get an instant quote.

The Tape View displays your recent equations and allows you to copy them or whisk them away via email.
