Alarm Clock - Best Alarm Clock Free 3.5
Old design
Best Alarm Clock Free is hardly what one would call best-in-breed. It doesn’t even fill up a 4-inch display and it still thinks it’s running on iOS 4, despite us teasing it on an iOS 7.1.2 device. The graphics is primitive, and the built-in ads aren’t doing it any favors either. The analog display is decent looking, but we’ve seen better.
Built-in weather utility
Apart from the alarm clock function which is admittedly simple and straightforward, the entire experience is sub par. Best Alarm Clock Free, like most apps of its kind, has a built-in weather tool that uses your location to accurately determine the temperature outside and other factors.
Everything in this app is pretty annoying. You don’t know what the saxophone icon does until you press it. A sax tune starts playing (a bad one too) and the app starts to flash ads before your eyes. Why? Why not just flash them without the music?
Creating alarms is fairly easy, and you can set repeat dates too. The sounds are terrible, and if you forget your device muted, it won’t ring. Basically you just can’t rely on it.
Not optimized for new hardware / firmware
Best Alarm Clock FREE requires iOS 3 as the minimum firmware, not because the developers are thoughtful to support everyone, but because they’re lazy. The app still thinks it is living in the iOS 4 days, and there’s no iPad version (not that anyone would want it). That said, if you’re stuck with an iPhone 2G / 3G that can’t go beyond iOS 3.1.3, you now have a choice to replace the stock alarm clock from Apple (but we can’t imagine why anyone would choose this app).

Bottom Line
Design / UI5
The app looks bad, it only has three lousy color themes to choose from (neither of which looks too classy), and it doesn’t even support 4-inch displays. |
Function4
It doesn’t wake you up if you forget the phone muted, and the sax thing is just annoying, on top of everything else. |
Security8
It wants your location for weather services, but you can opt out of this feature of course. |
Battery8
Normal consumption levels, but it stays on forever if you don’t put your device to sleep manually. |
Price6
The ads tell you to upgrade to the full version for benefits that you shouldn’t even care for. |
Compatibility7
Requires iOS 4.3 as the minimum firmware, not because the developers are thoughtful to support everyone, but because they’re lazy |
At least it gives you some choice when you're stuck under iOS 4.3
