Alarm Clock HD - Free 1.67
A pretty "full" UI
The Alarm Clock Company has everyone covered with a neat looking Alarm Clock HD app that packs more features than you’d probably expect. It displays not only the time and date, but even weather information and headlines from your RSS feed, complete with the ability to visit the sites and read the articles. It can also display Twitter and Facebook updates.
At the top there’s a flashlight utility and the settings pane. To the left is a pane showing other apps by the Alarm Clock people, and the bottom side of the screen displays ads (if you insist on sticking with the free version). One thing though. It uses iOS 6-style knobs and keyboard.
The weather forecast should be bigger. In landscape mode, the ads go away and the GUI goes full screen. The only problem is there aren’t that many docks that hold your iPhone/iPad in that position.
Packed with features
Clock apps aren’t exactly the rage, if you catch our drift. However, Alarm Clock HD sports so many cool things that it can’t go unnoticed. You can slide your finger across the screen to adjust its brightness, shake it to turn on the built-in flashlight utility, set alarms with relaxing sounds and music, set your news feed to Twitter, Facebook, or your favorite news source (might we suggest Softpedia), and lots of other handy stuff.
The Stop and Snooze alarm buttons are huge, which is precisely what you want when you’re half asleep and reaching for your phone. Even the iPad version makes sense. You can use it either in portrait or landscape mode, and it actually looks very classy. Also, you can change the color of the clock display to the exact shade you prefer.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
Despite using an age-old design, Alarm Clock HD looks pretty radical. The news feed along with the analog display font make for an awesome experience. |
Function9
We never thought we’d herald a clock app, but there’s a first for everything |
Security9
Uses location services for the weather forecast. |
Battery7
Depending on your usage settings, you can either drain your battery very fast or not at all. But since it’s meant to sit in a cradle or a dock on your night stand, you’ll probably never experience any drainage. |
Price9
Free with an optional in-app purchase to eliminate the ads. But the developer isn’t twisting your arm or anything. You get the full set of features for free, with or without the ads. |
Compatibility9
Works with all iDevices that can handle iOS 6.1, and has an iPad-native interface that takes advantage of the bigger display. |
For a clock app, that’s quite a score
