T-Mobile has just announced that its Video Calling service will be available to customers owning supported smartphones beginning this week.

The carrier's Video Calling service is powered by VoLTE and is now available to customers with a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 or Galaxy S6.

“On devices with T-Mobile Video Calling, small camera icons appear next to contacts with devices able to receive video calls.

“If the person you’re calling can’t take video calls, the video call icon is greyed out. We’re working with others so you can eventually enjoy built-in video calling across wireless networks,” says T-Mobile in a blog post.

By “others” T-Mobile is probably referring to Verizon Wireless, another carrier that has already launched its own video calling service.

According to T-Mobile, the new service will be available to customers that own the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge starting next week.

The Video Calling service will be added to these two smartphones via a new software update, which you can download by heading to Settings / About Device / Software Update.

Also, by the end of the year, three more smartphones will be eligible for the T-Mobile Video Calling service, but the Magenta carrier did not name these devices.

If you own one of the supported handsets, then you will be able to make T-Mobile Video Calls to and from capable devices on any available LTE connection, using data straight from your high-speed data bucket, as well as over Wi-Fi.
