The update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages

Great news for Sony fans who still own the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact smartphones, as the Japanese company has just released the latest version of Android Lollipop for these particular devices.

According to XperiaBlog, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, build number 14.6.A.0.368, is now pushed OTA (over the air) to all three Xperia smartphones mentioned earlier.

The cited source also states that the update is only available in some countries for the moment, but that's quite understandable since the rollout is performed in stages. This means that it will take a few weeks until all devices receive the update.

It's also worth mentioning that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is all about bug fixes, so don't expect any new features to be included in the update.

Also, Sony added a patch for the fearsome Stagefright exploit, so in case you've been affected, the update should solve the issue for you.

The Xperia Z1, Z Ultra and Z1 Compact are among the last to receive Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, since the older Xperia Z series already got the update less than a week ago.

That being said, we expect more details on Sony's Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade plans to be revealed by the end of the year, though it's pretty clear that some of the previous Xperia flagships might not get the new version of the OS.
