Shazam is definitely one of the most popular music recognition apps out there with millions of downloads on the Play Store. The company behind it has announced that it released a lightweight version of its main app called Shazam Lite.

Shazam Lite will be available on Android and it will have a size of just 1MB. The app will use as little data as possible, while also providing a high-quality music experience.

The company has announced that it intends to offer all smartphone users the possibility to use Shazam services, even if their Internet connection is lacking or their smartphones don’t have the latest specs.

Shazam users in regions with limited network coverage will be able to discover and share music without having to worry about connectivity issues.

Shazam Lite comes with features that allow users to discover songs while offline and save recent search results inside the app. The application was developed to come to the aid of users with smartphones having low memory or limited connectivity options.

“We're focused on providing Shazam in areas where connectivity is poor and available devices may be limited,” said Iordanis Giannakakis, Head of Android Engineering at Shazam.

Shazam Lite will be made available in India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Nigeria in English language. A version of the app will be brought to Venezuela in Spanish. The app is already listed in the Play store, offered free of charge, and will be compatible with smartphones running Android 2.3 or older.

Shazam’s app recently received an update that added auto mode for songs playing in the background. The feature automatically identifies songs playing in the background and adds them to the My Shazam tab.
