In early 2015, we told you that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition had been discontinued, so users looking to purchase it from the Google Play Store weren’t able to do so anymore.

Well, there are still a bunch of folks holding on the Galaxy S4 GPe, and today we bring them some good news. After months of waiting, the Galaxy S4 GPe is finally being updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Google started out the Google Play edition initiative in order to push quick software update like in the case of its Nexus devices. But oddly enough, all the other Google Play edition devices were bumped up to Android 5.1 Lollipop, but the Galaxy S4 GPe didn’t receive the same treatment.

What’s more, the update is Android 5.1, and not the latest 5.1.1. Android Police reports that the update is currently available in its OTA form for users of the Galaxy S4 GPe. So if you are one of the owners of this device, you’d better check your phone for any notifications or go manually to Settings>About phone>System updates menu to see if the OTA has arrived on your phone.

We say that later is better than never, but in this case, we believe many Galaxy S4 GPe users are highly disappointed in Google. It’s a good thing the Galaxy S5 GPe never became a reality right?
