Unlike the R7, the R7 Lite runs Android Lollipop

Without much fuss or drawing attention, Oppo has listed a new member of the R7 family on its official website and an Indonesian retail webshop, the R7 Lite. As the name indicates, the phone is a downgrade of the R7, albeit looking almost identical to it on the outside.

The R7 Lite offers a 5-inch AMOLED display with 720p resolution and 294ppi, as opposed to the R7’s FHD one (1080p). The phone continues to be powered by a Snapdragon 615 processor like the fully-fledged model, but in combination with only 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (which can be expanded via microSD card slot).

Oppo also throws in a 13MP/8MP camera combo and satisfactory 2,320 mAh battery. But unlike the R7, the R7 Lite launches with Android 5.1 onboard (and Color OS 2.1 plastered on top), while the other was made official with KitKat out of the box and is still waiting to be updated to Android Lollipop. Ouch.

The Indonesian webshop we’ve been telling you about is currently listing the R7 Lite at approximately $280 / €250, while the R7 can be yours for $350 / €313. We’re not sure the better deal wouldn’t be the R7 Lite.

We’re yet to find out whether Oppo will bring the R7 Lite into Europe or US or any other markets. Nevertheless, pricing specifications might change based on area. We’ll keep you posted on the matter.
