14 DAY TRIAL // CopperheadOS is a hardened open-source operating system based on Android, and it's one of the best solutions for users who wish to enhance privacy on their smartphones, considering that Google's OS can be vulnerable in some respects. Copperhead has just announced that it has made the OS available for Nexus devices.
Copperhead is currently selling Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X with its CopperheadOS pre-installed. The operating system comes with more privacy features, including alternatives to Google apps and separate encryption and lockscreen passwords.
The operating system is free of charge and available on the company's website for download. However, Copperhead does charge quite a lot for the devices with pre-installed CopperheadOS. On the company's website, the Nexus 6P sells for $750 with CopperheadOS while the same smartphone only costs $500 on the Google Store.
Users who are familiar with swapping out ROMs can get the regular Nexus 6P and install CopperheadOS without having to spend $150 more in the process.
LG Nexus 5X is also available on the Copperhead online store for $599. CopperheadOS is currently only available for Nexus smartphones, and the company mentions that it is committed to supporting such devices as long as Google guarantees support.
This means that Nexus 5X with CopperheadOS will receive Android version upgrades until September 2017 and security updates until September 2018.
