Earlier this year, Google added eight new app categories to the Play Store and the company continues to make changes in order to improve the experience of users and developers. Apparently, Google is currently working on several new UI changes to the Store.

Among the UI updates Google is prepping for the Play store there is a new Entertainment section and a different look for the carousel, according to Android Police. In addition, the tech giant is thinking about removing the search bar in the Play Store and is also working on a new Google Play Store banner.

The Entertainment section will have a more descriptive title: Movies, Music, Books. However, the long text does seem to look a bit weird on devices with lower resolution.

The featured items carousel will get a new look, as Google decided to move it down and make the slides smaller. This makes it easier to scroll through featured items. Previously, the carousel spanned from end to end and stood on top of the home page.

Changes were also brought to the search bar, which will be hidden by default. Users would have to tap on the search icon at the top in order to expand the bar and type in the name of the app they wish to find.

The search bar is currently located at the top of the screen and it provides instant access to voice search. The change could require users to perform an extra tap in order to use voice search.

It remains to be seen if Google will actually implement all the changes in an update or only a few will make it to the app.
