Google Maps is one of the most popular navigation apps out there, with plenty of features for getting around by car or public transportation, and the company has just released a new beta version for Maps with some cool features.

Google's new Maps v9.38 comes with fewer features compared to previous releases, but it does add a new tab with a list of upcoming events, bookings and reservations, according to Android Police. The tab is located in the “Your places” section and is entitled “Upcoming”.

There aren't many details on the feature right now, but more will be disclosed when it goes live. The upcoming events tab gets information from Calendar and Gmail apps, depending on the accounts that are linked to the Android smartphone.

The new beta version comes with another neat feature, an album for pictures of food. Obviously, Instagram comes to mind when referring to pictures of food, but the album will have a very useful functionality on Google Maps.

Google added photos of food for each restaurant so that users would know what to expect to find in a specific place, without having to go through the menu online. It's a good way to get an idea of the specific food that a restaurant serves, and when tapping an image, the app opens a list of dishes found in the menu. The APK for the beta version is available on APK Mirror.

Recently, Google added speed limits during navigation to the Maps app, so that users would know the legal speed limit in certain areas they go through and get an accurate estimation on the ETA.
