As Android Nougat 7.0 is nearing its release, Google has started updating its main applications to support the latest OS features. Google Keyboard v5.1 was first announced in the Android N Developer Preview 3 released in May, and now it seems that it has started rolling out.

The update allows users to customize their keyboard with a set of 15 pre-configured themes, according to Android Police. It also comes with the option to pick photos from the gallery and add them in the background of the keyboard. Users can crop images into a rectangle and adjust the photo brightness. What's more, version 5.1 on Android Nougat also brings support for the latest Unicode 9.0.

It sure is a useful option for customizing the Google Keyboard, but it's not like it brings anything new to the market, considering that many third-party apps like SwiftKey have had this feature for quite some time now.

Back in May, users could sideload the APK on Lollipop or Marshmallow OS versions, aside from Android Nougat, but now it seems that the feature will be available for download in the Google Play Store, as it has already started rolling out.

The Clock app has also been updated, and version 4.5.1 comes with support for Android Nougat 7.0, as well as multi-window support. In addition, it comes with Direct Boot support, which means that alarms can now ring before the device is unlocked. It also provides warnings when alarms are silenced by device settings.
