Facebook is certainly the biggest social network around and it has come a long way since its initial launch in 2004. The company has just released a new application aimed at teenagers who are using iOS phones.

Facebook's Lifestage is a standalone iOS application designed for people under the age of 21. Lifestage is quite different to the current Facebook application, in the sense that it requires users to share information about themselves only in videos. The app works like a private video diary in which students answer questions about themselves.

People who are the age of 22 and over can still download and use the application, but there are some restrictions in place. They will be able to create a profile, but they won't have the possibility to view other user's profiles.

Those who are under 21 can sign up and select their high school. They will be required to add their verified mobile number and email ID. Users don't need a Facebook account to sign up inside the application and Lifestage only shows other people once 20 students from the user's school register.

In this way, the app creates a private network of people that can access and view content. The application allows users to record and post videos, which are then turned into a video profile that others can watch.

Lifestage was created by Facebook's youngest product manager, Michael Sayman who's just 19 years old. He's also the creator of 4Snaps, a highly popular photo game. Lifestage is currently available for free on iOS and it remains to be seen if Facebook will make it available to Android also.
