Cortana for Android is being tested by select users

Not so long ago, Microsoft launched Cortana for Android for a select few in the United States, offering the virtual assistant an experience just like that for Windows 10 users. But when the application debuted, users soon discovered that it lacked an important feature.

Users couldn’t set the app as the default personal assistant, thus replacing Google Now. The new version, which allows users to achieve this end, is 1.0.204. So if until now pressing the “home button” on your Android device would prompt the Google Now, now you are confronted with a choice, Cortana included (as seen at Microsoft News).

For the time being, we don’t know when the Android Cortana app will be ready to move out of its beta phase and into the Google Play Store, where everyone can download it and give it a go. But if you are interested in joining the beta program for the app, you can check out the following link.

When ready, Cortana will make a debut into the wild with most of the features available for Windows Phone users, except for “Hey Cortana” voice activation feature. This option is not being offered due to issues related to hardware compatibility. Apart from that, Android users shouldn’t miss anything in terms of options.

Hopefully, it won’t take much longer for the app to make an official debut.
