One of this year’s most anticipated smartphone announcements must be the BlackBerry Venice, which we recently found out will be launched on the market as “Prev.” The phone has been leaking extensively in the past few months, so we know most of the details related to it.

Still, the information remained in the realm of speculation until now. But not anymore because during its Q2 financial results conference call, the Canadian company confirmed the BlackBerry Prev.

The device maker didn’t go into details about specifications and the like, but it did let us know that the Android slider would be made available “late in the calendar year in the major markets in-store and online.”

BlackBerry is calling the device “Priv” for a good reason. With the slider, BlackBerry is playing one of its major cards, “privacy,” so we can expect the Priv to be one of the most secure Android devices out there, coming with support for Android for Work and BES12.

The slider phone is expected to come equipped with a 5.4-inch capacitive touchscreen display that offers support for QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) and a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor working in combination with 3GB of RAM. An 18MP main photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording capabilities is also being thrown into the mix.

Previously we were told that the BlackBerry Priv might make it out on the market in November, so let’s keep our fingers crossed for that.
