Sony Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Dual have been stuck on Android 4.4.4 KitKat for quite a while now, even though the Japanese company promised to offer Lollipop updates for these smartphones.

The good news is it won't be long until Sony releases the promised update, since the folks over at XperiaBlog report that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for both Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Dual has been spotted at PTCRB.

This is the last step before an update gets released, if nothing goes wrong and Sony doesn't find any bugs at the last moment and postpones the launch until they get fixed.

Anyway, for those who are anxious to receive the update and will check their phones in the next couple of days to see if it has been released, the firmware number listed at PTCRB is 18.6.A.0.175, so if it appears on your Xperia M2 / M2 Dual device, then you should be happy.

Apart from the many new features and improvements that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop has been confirmed to bring, we also expect Sony to include a fix for the Stagefright exploit.

It's also worth mentioning that once the update goes live, it will only be available in a few regions before being released worldwide. We'll keep an eye out for more info on this one, so stay tuned.
