Sony’s Xperia Z1 Compact, the smaller version of the Xperia Z1 flagship, has already been rooted, even before it actually landed on shelves.

According to a thread on the XDA-Developers Forum, the process has been competed by DoomLoRD, in collaboration with Koush and the Free Xperia team.

The smartphone will become available for purchase in February, and many users will certainly be looking at ways to personalize their devices beyond what official software will allow them to, and rooting could prove the option for many.

In order to achieve root on the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, however, users will need an unlocked bootloader, which will void warranty.

Even so, the good news is that root can be achieved on this device, and that a CyanogenMod-based recovery is also available for it, as XperiaBlog notes. Custom ROMs for the handset, will certainly arrive soon, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
