Back in March, China’s Apple Xiaomi introduced a very affordable handset called the Redmi 2A, which was then announced to sell for $97 / €86.

Well, if the phone wasn’t cheap enough for you, the good news is that Xiaomi is slashing the price of the Redmi 2A today, offering it for just $80 / €71.

The smartphone arrives with a 4.7-inch display with 720p resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) and draws life from a Leadcore L1860C chipset with quad-core 1.5GHz CPU and Mali-T628MP2 GPU. There’s also 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory.

In terms of camera, the Redmi 2A bundles an 8MP rear unit and a 2MP front shooter. It runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with the company’s MIUI ROM on top, unlike Oppo’s new smartphones, the Neo 5 (2015) and Neo 5s, which ship out with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and might even turn out to be more expensive.

All in all, the Redmi 2A is a good choice for those wanting to try out an Android smartphone. It’s cheap, light and runs Android Lollipop on board.

The promotion is only available in China.

In related news, Xiaomi is also focusing on its high-end efforts, and today we heard that the device maker might be looking to introduce a premium Mi5 Pro alongside the already rumored Mi5.
