Microsoft is reportedly preparing the inclusion of some appealing new features inside its Windows Phone 8 platform in the not too distant future, especially after the Cortana personal assistant becomes available.

The feature, supposedly similar to what Google Now and Siri have to offer at the moment, is now said to be always-on. Basically, Cortana will be always there waiting for input, just as Google Now is on Moto X, a recent article on PhoneArena notes.

Additionally, it is said to offer support for voice unlock, which means that users won’t have to touch the smartphone to get past the lock screen.

What remains to be seen is how well the functionality will bode with the hardware inside Windows Phone 8 devices, and whether it will be a power drainer or not.

Rumor has it that Cortana will make its debut in early 2014, yet no official confirmation on this has emerged until now.
