14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has recently announced that Windows Phone is now the second mobile platform in India, immediately after Android, which still dominates the market.
According to WMPoweruser, the announcement was made at the Teched conference in Pune, India, and is based on IDC Asia/Pacific Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker data for Q4, 2012.
India has seen a fast smartphone growth and Windows Phone seems to be the mobile platform that gained the most market share in the past couple of months.
It appears that smartphone shipments reached no less than 5.4 million units in Q4 2012, with a 38% growth in comparison with the same period last year.
The information should not surprise anyone given Nokia’s success with the Lumia 620 smartphone, which is sold out at some Indian retailers.
It remains to be seen whether Windows Phone will be able to take on Android, which is Indians’ favorite mobile platform for the moment.
