Redmond-based software giant Microsoft is reportedly well underway with the development of the next major Windows Phone upgrade, and has already started to test it internally.

Supposedly set to land on devices as Windows Phone 8.1, the operating system is said to feature build number 8.10.12166.0 at the moment, as WPCentral reports.

Apparently, a Chinese developer has spotted this version number in their application, which suggests that someone at Microsoft might have downloaded it on a device running under the upcoming platform release, WPDang notes.

Little is known at the moment on the OS, though it is expected to arrive on devices with a higher build number attached. No details on when the update might start to arrive on devices have been provided either, though we might not see it before early 2014, it seems.
