Owners of the Samsung Z1 can call contacts via WhatsApp

You've probably heard by now that Android and BlackBerry users who use the WhatsApp messaging service can now take advantage of the Voice Calling feature.

The option rolled out a while ago, but it was made available only to select users. Still, the good news is that now anyone with an Android or BlackBerry phone can make phone calls via WhatsApp.

But that's not all. Those of you who have purchased Samsung’s first Tizen OS smartphone, the Z1, are getting the same treatment (as seen at Tizen Experts).

Even if concerns were raised over the skimpy app ecosystem for Tizen, the phone can run WhatsApp. More than that, the app has just received an update which allows Z1 users to make phone calls via the service.

The thing is the Tizen WhatsApp app can support voice calling because the application is basically an emulated version of its Android counterpart.

Anyway, Samsung Z1 users will probably notice that WhatsApp now has three different tabs, one for Calls, one for Contacts, and one for Chats. And with a few taps, Z1 owners will be able to call a contact from their list directly from the WhatsAspp interface.

WhatsApp version 2.12.10 is currently available for download from the Tizen Store and you’ll need this latest version to start using the calling feature.
