Twitter's client for Android devices has just received a major update that brings several improvements and bug fixes. The most important seems to be the new swipe shortcut gesture that allows users choose more options for individual tweets.

Aside from that, Twitter for Android 3.1.1 features improved scrolling and network performance, as well as improved support for devices running Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The developers also fixed a bug with search results not loading tweets and another one that crashed the application for some users immediately after the update.

New languages (Filipino and Simplified Chinese) have been added as well, along with other security improvements.

Twitter for Android 3.1.1 is now available as a free download in the Android Market and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.1 and up.
