Who said flagship smartphones have to be uber expensive?

We tend to believe that flagship devices have to be extremely expensive, and our assumption holds some ground if we just look at the Samsung Galaxy S6 or HTC One M9.

But Chinese OEMs are paving the way for an era where flagship devices with powerful specs will be sold for very acceptable price tags. And the assault has already begun.

Awkwardly-named local phone maker Elephone announced their latest flagship, the P7000. According to Neo Win, this is a model that will go on sale for just $199 / €187 (early bird price) sometime in April.

For this amount of money, customers will receive a phone with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a MediaTek MT6752 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz, working hand in hand with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. It’s also LTE-capable.

Elephone offers a 16MP camera (taking advantage of Sony’s sensor) that lives on the back of the handset, plus an 8MP snapper up in front. Last but not least, we have to mention that the handset takes advantage of a metal frame, which makes the model look very stylish.

The company says the phone will offer support for Android 5.0 Lollipop, CyanogenMod ROM and more later this year.

The P7000 will be offered through Elephone’s online partners at some point and might even ship out internationally.
