Major retailer Target has just announced it will sell the LG Optimus V from Virgin Mobile for only $49.99 (36 EUR) off-contract.

Although the Optimus V is not one of the modern Android smartphones recently launched in the market, this is a great deal as the phone is available for $80 (58 EUR) off the suggested retail price.

Those who are unfamiliar with the Optimus V, the smartphone is the carrier-branded version of the LG Optimus One, the most popular Android device manufactured by the Korean handset maker.

Unfortunately, the Optimus V is delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo on board. However, some versions of the Optimus One already received the Gingerbread upgrade, which increases Virgin Mobile's version to be upgraded as well.

For the moment, this is the only deal on smartphones confirmed by Target, but others may be announced by the end of the week.
