Sony offers a handset with low specs but long life cycle

After a few images of Sony’s unannounced budget Xperia E4 handset leaked yesterday, Sony decided that it was time to pull the veil off the device and so it did.

The Xperia E4 is now official, so we can tell you all about the device. The low-to-mid range device arrives with a 5-inch IPS LCD display with qHD resolution (540 x 960 pixels) and a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM.

It brings 8GB of internal storage on board, which luckily can be expanded via a microSD card. Other specs include a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and 2MP front-facing camera.

The biggest selling point of the Xperia E4 seems to be its 2,300 mAh battery that Sony says is capable of sustaining a 2-day life. The company also includes Battery Stamina and Ultra Stamina saving modes to aid this purpose, and given the low resolution on the device, this might very well turn out to be the case.

Sony will also provide a dual-SIM variant of this device, which comes bundling Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box.

The new low ranger will be offered in Black and White, but despite coming under the OmniBalance design philosophy, the Xperia E4 doesn't look very similar to the company’s latest handsets.

The model bundles curved edges, a textured back, a scratch-resistant display, a stainless steel camera ring, and a diamond-cut aluminum power button.

Sony says that it will market the handset at a highly competitive price point, although we’re not being told what that is.
