Xperia Z2, the latest flagship Android-based smartphone form Sony Mobile, is about to receive a new software update, and the build has already received certification, it seems.

The new update has been spotted online as firmware build 17.1.1.A.0.402 and has received certification for Xperia Z2 D6502 and D6503 models (and for Xperia Z2 Tablet SGP521 and SGP541), as XperiaBlog notes.

At the moment, the smartphone is running under software version 17.1.A.2.69, which suggests that the new build might arrive shortly. However, not all firmware that receives certification actually arrives on smartphones, and we’ll have to wait to see how that will turn out for the new build.

Moreover, the fact that the new release marks a change in build number, from 17.1.A.2.XX to 17.1.1.A.0.XXX, could suggest that Sony is planning some major changes for it.

However, no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now, and it remains to be seen whether the supposition will pan out in the end. Undoubtedly, Sony will unveil all on the new firmware when the rollout begins.

No specific details on when the update might start arriving on devices have been provided as of now either. Hopefully, Sony will be ready to release it sooner rather than later, so keep an eye on this space for additional info on the matter.
