The company does not want any details on upcoming devices to leak online

Japanese handset maker Sony does not allow testers of Xperia prototypes to install benchmarking apps such as AnTuTu anymore.

As XperiaBlog points out, the company is afraid that information on its upcoming devices will leak online the moment AnTuTu benchmark is run on its prototype units, which is why testers can’t load it.

Although AnTuTu benchmark can be easily installed on any Sony Xperia prototype, upon opening the application, you will get the following message: “You mush uninstall this app!! When you use this app, prototype’s information may be leaked. Please click YES button.”

Given the fact that we have received loads of info on unannounced Sony handsets in the last couple of months, the company’s move makes sense, though we suspect it won’t stop the wave of leaks.

It’s unclear how many other benchmarking apps are under embargo by Sony, but there are other ways to leak details on upcoming devices that testers might use now.
