South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has managed to storm the mobile phone market to climb all the way to the top, and appears to have ambitious plans for this year.

According to the latest reports on the matter, the company is aiming at shipping no less than half a billion handsets in 2013.

The info comes from “industry supply chain sources,” a recent article on DigiTimes reports, adding that the handset vendor is already receiving display panel shipments of around 10 million units a month for its entry-level and mid-range handsets from China-based panel maker BOE.

The company also receives panel supplies from Tianma Micro-electronics, Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), and AU Optronics (AUO). Panels for high-end devices are being delivered to it by Sharp and Japan Display, in addition to Samsung Display, it seems.
