Today, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has started to roll out the KNOX 2.0 platform for its handsets, with the Galaxy S5 smartphones being the first to receive it.

KNOX 2.0 was announced earlier this year and should become available for other Samsung devices as well, but Galaxy S5 users are the only ones to have access to it at the moment.

Samsung has designed the platform to provide users with a great deal of security features on their smartphones, and the new KNOX 2.0 is meant to take that one step further.

As SammyHub notes, the new release should prove a great option for those who want to bring their own devices into an enterprise environment, as it is capable of delivering the security features that they would need in such BYOD scenarios.

KNOX 2.0 comes as a “portfolio of multiple products and services designed to better meet the rapidly evolving enterprise mobility needs of customers,” Samsung says. It packs apps and features such as KNOX Workspace, EMM, Marketplace and Customization.

KNOX 2.0 guarantees support for the majority of apps available on Android, which means that there is no need for a separate wrapping process to ensure that these apps are secure.

At the moment, the KNOX Workspace, which is the core security platform, is available on Galaxy S5, yet other Samsung devices are also expected to receive it in a few months.
