South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is reportedly getting closer to finalizing its own 64-bit processor, and it might have it included in the next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5.

Samsung has already confirmed plans to pack upcoming devices with 64-bit CPUs, but it did not offer a specific timeframe for when that should happen.

According to the latest reports on the matter, however, the SoC is in the final stages of development. The processor is also said to be based on the ARM Cortex-A50 architecture.

Apparently, the 64-bit Exynos processor from Samsung was designed for both smartphones and tablets, as PhoneArena notes.

The inclusion of such chips inside mobile devices should open a new world of possibilities for the manufacturer, given that 64-bit CPUs will deliver support for more RAM, better multitasking capabilities, and improved overall performance.
