Samsung is finally ready to bring its first Tizen OS-based handsets to the market and might announce them as soon as this quarter, a recent report from Reuters suggests.

The South Korean mobile phone maker has been long trying to release such smartphones, but it has delayed the move for over a year now.

According to Reuters, Yoon Han-kil, senior vice president of Samsung's product strategy team, has already confirmed that the company is ready to release said phones this quarter, though no specific date has been unveiled.

The first Tizen-based smartphone from Samsung is expected to be a high-end device, whereas the next one should be a mid-range one, it seems.

Samsung has long committed to the release of such a handset, though it appears that it will remain focused on Android phones. Earlier this month, the company also launched a Windows Phone device in the United States on Verizon, in the form of ATIV SE.

What remains to be seen is whether Samsung’s Tizen smartphones will manage to appeal enough to users for the company to continue investing in this operating system.

Previously, the vendor partnered with wireless carriers around the world for the launch, but postponed it, claiming that the market conditions were not in its favor.
