It allows users to unpack RAR, ZIP, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, 7z, ISO, ARJ archives

Makers of WinRAR, one of the most popular software that allows users to create and unpack archives, has just released the Android version of their smash hit application.

RAR for Android now offers those who own a smartphone or tablet powered by Google’s mobile operating system the possibility to create RAR and ZIP, as well as unpack RAR, ZIP, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, 7z, ISO, ARJ archives.

But there is more to it. According to developers, aside from standard ZIP files, unzip function also supports ZIP and ZIPX with BZIP2, LZMA and PPMd compression.

It is also worth mentioning that RAR for Android also allows users to take advantage of additional commands such as “repair,” “benchmark” and “recovery record.”

For the time being, the application is only available in English, but developers are asking those who wish to help us translate RAR to their languages to download the app’s language files in “RAR extras” and follow the instructions in the .txt file.

Android users who feel they need the features offered by the application can now download RAR for Android for free via Softpedia. Keep in mind that the application is only compatible with devices powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and up.
