It looks like Pakistani mobile phone users will soon have a hard time sending text messages that contain certain words in either English or Urdu.

According to VoaNews, Pakistani officials already forwarded a list of more than 1,600 words and phrases (1,000 in English, the rest in Urdu), to national telecoms in the country with the purpose of blocking all text messages that contains one of the word on the list.

However, Pakistani officials are tying to deny their plans to ban certain text messages by saying that the list was meant to be kept between the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority and carriers to see if there's a way to filter obscene messages.

The decision has been postponed for now due to several threats of taking the issue to court coming from various free-speech advocacy organizations, including Bytes for All.
