Opera Max for Android, the application that uses compression technology to save up to 50% mobile data, has just been released in Turkey. Beginning today, Turkish Android users will be able to download Opera Max on their devices and start saving data.

According to developer Opera Software, the application “adds even more value for users with pre-paid data plans, paying per megabyte of use, or roaming internationally, as they will be able to watch more video, browse more sites and simply make the most of their limited plans, all for free.”

Here is how it works. As soon as you install Opera Max, the application will start rerouting all mobile data traffic on the Android smartphone to the Opera data-savings cloud by means of VPN (virtual private network).

Keep in mind that only non-encrypted data requests (excluding websites and apps with HTTPS connections) are sent through Opera’s servers, which compress video, images and websites for the sole purpose of using less mobile data.

You can now download Opera Max for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with most devices powered by Android 4.0 and up. The software is still in beta though, so you might encounter some bugs as well.
