Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia is reportedly getting ready for the release of a new software update for its Windows Phone 8-based Lumia handsets, so as to provide users with support for Bluetooth 4.0.

According to a recent article on The Verge, Nokia is planning on offering Low Energy support for fitness devices like Fitbit within the aforementioned update, which will be part of the previously detailed Nokia Amber software.

Furthermore, its Lumia handsets will also become compatible with a variety of new accessories that should become official soon.

Apparently, the new update will be released to all smartphones running under Windows Phone 8, including the Nokia Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 devices. Lumia 520, 620, and 720 handsets will be updated as well.

Nokia is said to plan on launching the aforementioned accessories with a focus on location services such as Here Maps and Here Drive.
